TO: Bone Mesa Domestic Water District Tap Holders
Mainline Break on 5/27
Bone Mesa experienced a mainline break that affected the majority of the system overnight in late May. This break cut a major artery of the system and drained the majority of our stored water. In response to the emergency, we engaged the county’s emergency response system to help alert users in the district. At the same time, the board enacted Level II Mandatory Water Conservation, a tool found in the Rules and Regulations, that was last used in 2013 following severe drought conditions.
State of the District
Prior to the mainline break, the system was balancing weak inflows and typical usage with scant overflow. The board had considered conservation efforts at the board meeting one week prior to the break, and opted to wait until the end of the month to assess usage. Following the break, conservation efforts helped the district restore storage over the month. At this time, our storage has been restored, with overflow greatly diminished compared with historic flows.
Mandatory Conservation Fee Adjustment
After consideration, the board has elected to adjust the fee structure for Level II Mandatory Conservation that is in effect. The $500 fee for usage over 10,000 gallons has been removed. Rather, the overage fees will double beginning July 1, 2026 in a continued effort to encourage conservation. We anticipate these measures to remain unless conditions change at our springs.
The new fee structure for use over 10,000 gallons, Cost per 1000 gallons :
10,001 – 20,000: $14.40
20,001 – 30,000: $20.00
> 30,000 gallons: $40.00
We will continue to monitor the conditions of our water system, and will make changes as needed. These are unprecedented times across the west in regards to this precious resource, and we appreciate your cooperation in helping us maintain it.
Sincerely,
The Bone Mesa Board
